Meeting reviews anti-polio operations | The Express Tribune

A meeting to review polio activities being carried out in South Punjab and discuss future course of action was held here on Friday.

South Punjab Health Secretary Muhammad Iqbal and Punjab Emergency Operations Center Coordinator Syedah Ramallah Ali co-chaired the meeting at the Health Secretariat.

The meeting discussed the problems faced by the health department during the polio campaigns in 2021 and 2022 and developed a future plan of action to avoid them.

The Ramallah coordinator stressed the need to maintain proper data regarding missed children from districts during campaigns. She said the threat of polio was increasing, adding that polio drops should be administered at entry and exit points to cities.

The PEOC Coordinator asked the CEOs of the Regional Health Authorities (DHAs) to ensure the safety of polio vaccination teams so that they can carry out their duties safely. Ramallah appreciated the efforts of health workers who administered drops in flooded areas of the province and distributed certificates among themselves and other workers.

Iqbal called the eradication of the debilitating disease a challenge, saying it was a priority of the Punjab government to make the province polio-free.
